Watch your step...

I'm wrapping up the evening. About to go to bed. I turn off the lights in the office and head towards the kitchen, across the living room, to put away my coffee cup. Just one step outside of the office I notice something out of the corner of my eye. Something's on the ground on the carpet. A darker spot on the carpet which doesn't match the carpet's color. I look down and see a long shape just sitting there. It only takes me a fraction of a second to identify this little guy. It's the second one this year. I set my cup down and head back into the office trying to figure out what to use to capture it. The usual trick is to get some sort of clear cylindrical vessel and a flat piece of paper. A CD spindle cover will do and a junk mail envelope. There's no reason to fear these little guys or any of its relatives. I encapsulate the critter from above and slide the envelope underneath. This little guy didn't even flinch when I came down on it. It did start to move once I got it onto the envelope and I can see it curled its tail. Flipped the lid to allow it to fall into the lid and snapped the pic before getting rid of the scorpion. Always watch where you're going. This goes for everyone. Including you, little scorpion.
